| Kingfish can attain weights of over 100 lbs.
and lengths of up to 5 feet. They are extremely popular to both sport and commercial
fishermen as their flesh is of excellent quality. Found in tropical and subtropical
waters, the king ranges from as far north as Maine down to Brazil; in the fall, there are
heavy concentrations off Florida. A coastal, pelagic species it prefers waters of up to 20
fathoms in depth. Kings may be caught with a variety of methods: medium- to
heavy-duty spinning tackle has proved successful at landing the kings, as has
drift-fishing and trolling.
